Summer at Smitten

We have brought in so many new things at the store that I wanted to share some photos.

  

 

This is the front "summer" table.  Check out the concrete shell base and the baby blue enamel sand buckets full of votive candles.  The table also has unique tarnished silver pieces, old bundles of French books, natural oyster shells, hand blown glass vases, and a mix of vintage glass bottles of sea grass.

  

Here is a close up of an old book bundle, an oyster shell, and hand blown glass vase.  Luann hand made the old bottle with sea coral topper...

 

New for summer, we brought in three scents of locally made votive candles.  My favorite is Creme Brulee, I have been burning it at my house for years, and am so excited to finally be selling it!! ($15 dozen)

 

 

 

Love this old store wire fixture full of miscellaneous ironstone pieces.  Thanks for the great idea, Theresa!!

 

 

 

 

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!  I am crazy about mixed vintage silverware!  Why do they all have to match anyway?!  We are selling unmatched, but cleaned and polished silverware. ($4 a piece)

 

 

  

 

 

We are so excited to be carrying some of the French Lothantique body and bath line.  We brought in two scents, Verbena (my favorite!) and Grapefruit (Luann's favorite!).   Besides the gorgeous packaging and labels, the products are made with natural ingredients, smell heavenly, and they are well priced!!

 

 

 

LOVE this French iron campaign bed!!!  We had a custom mattress hand made from linen with detail stitching to fit the bed, and then filled it with Luann's one of a kind hand made pillows!

Luann's pillows are uniquely one-of-a-kind and this time they are sided with fabric of beautiful french script and then a vintage coffee bean bag.

 

We now have in stock fresh picked & preserved Ivory hydrangeas!!! ($20 a stem)

 

We framed a small collection of botanical prints from Sweden.  They are beautiful...

 

 

 

Love this laundry chest of drawers!!!  The hardware is unmatched and mixed and gives the cabinet so much character!

 

 

 

 

Last, a new curtain to add to our "collection".  These are locally handmade of gauzy material with a white ruffled base.  The standard size is 48" wide by 84" long, but can be custom made to any size.   The standard price is $130 a panel.

 

Inspiring Details - Summer Big Red Barn Show!

Thought I would share a few photos from the summer show at the Big Red Barn in Round Top, TX a few weekends ago. 

Our friends were there, and set up beautifully, selling their unique finds.  We left with a full car!!  (Oh, and scheduled a delivery .... thanks Camille!!)

 

This was the fabulous front table of Garden Antiques's booth, until we destroyed it by buying the old wire store display!!  I loved the way Theresa had loaded the display full of old ironstone pieces . . .

 

 

This is Peg & John's space of French Vanilla.  Isn't that table cool with the old round mirror as the table top?

 

 

Also French Vanilla's space.  John made the side table by using an old cast iron base and then a custom made zinc top! 

 

 

This is Leftover's booth.  I am crazy about the old store sign.  It is hand painted on old burlap fabric!  "Ice Cream, Soft Drinks, Lunch & Cigars, Candy and Fruit"   They have it all!

Linda's space of Willow Nest, beautifully put together as usual!

 

 

This charcoal sketches were drawn by Ludmil's daughter, she is one talented artist, just like her father!

 

 

 

I just loved these old English crocks found in Golden Chances Antiques booth.   What an incredible collection!

The Gardens of Willow Nest

A few weekends ago, we traveled again to the beautiful countryside of Burton, TX.  We stayed in our "home away from home", the Willow Nest B&B. 

The wonderful potting shed and garden that Linda & Ludmil had only begun the last time we stayed, was now in full bloom.  I was again inspired by Ludmil's creations, his unique birdhouses, garden sculptures and iron trellises. 

 The garden veggies and flowers had settled in nicely and were producing like they had been there for years.  It was beautiful.

 

Don't you just want one of these in your backyard?!  The old iron gate and galvanized metal fencing around the garden makes a charming entrance.

 

 

This is a detail of the incredible handmade trellis that surrounds you as you enter the garden.  I can't wait to see it in th fall once the jasmine has continued to grow on it.

 

 

In the center of the garden is another beautiful sculpture handmade by Ludmil.

 

 

His birdhouses continue to amaze me ...

 

 

Check out the morning glory growing on that large trellis!  When we were there a few months ago, the flowers had just been planted!!  They must be happy in their new garden home!

 

 

One early morning, I found myself in the garden greeted by the beautiful open morning glory flowers.

 

 

Large sunflowers were in full bloom and had been planted around the perimeter of the garden fence.

 

 

We took some ripe tomatoes home with us ... they were delicious!

 

 

Check out that baby bell pepper!

 

 

I just loved Linda's pink flowers in old buckets . . .

 

 

Finally, (I couldn't resist!) the neighboring cow Patches, greeted us as we came and went throughout the weekend.

Staying at the Willow Nest B&B is always a treat.  When we left and headed back to our busy city life, we felt refreshed and inspired.
