Winter White Wonderland

The holidays are a special time of the year.  A couple of weeks ago, we joined the ladies from Smitten and did a group show at the Plano Junior League's Neath the Wreath holiday show.  Our "white" booth stood out from the rest, filled with old and new, it was magical!

I love this old white toy truck carrying home it's new pearly Christmas trees!

 

 

 The center of our space was filled with Christmas decor, stockings made from vintage fabrics hung from the mantle while ornaments and garlands added sparkle. 

 

This wire tree was adorned with vintage ornaments and stood in a fabulous old cast iron stand.

 

 

This tree was made from 600 stems of dried and preserved hydrangeas!!  It added a natural warmth to our cool white space and was topped by a very special handmade crown, in honor of our friend.

 

Details of zinc and tones of silver and gray helped create our Winter Wonderland. The antique winter scene oil painting was a perfect background.

Luann's hand made jeweled bottles are the perfect one-of-a-kind gift.  They sparkled throughout our space.

 

 

We had an entire section full of mixed old ironstone, cream and white dishes, antique mirrors, and silver serving pieces.

  

These candles were made just for Patina Green by a local company.  The scented wax was poured into vintage snuff jars, as a reminder of our past and a great way to reuse the old.

 

This year we were inspired by a French Patisserie.  We brought in the most gorgeous glass and nickle plated tiered stands, hand etched glass domes over nickle plated adjustable cake stands.  French menus were displayed in beautiful picture frames and chalkboard holders announced the special of the day.

We replaced cupcakes with gorgeous vintage ornaments in silver liners.  A perfect way to showcase the jewels and memories from our past.
 

  

Haunted Smitten!

Smitten in downtown McKinney has been dressed for the upcoming spooky holiday!

Lichen covered creepy spiders hang from the walls, glitter skulls and skeletons line the shelves, and plenty of party decor, ready for any halloween bash, fills the store.

White Elephant Update

It has been a while since I have posted pictures of our space at the White Elephant Antiques Warehouse in Dallas.  I wanted to share some of our new finds!  Check out the gorgeous hand painted "mural", it was painted by a Santa Fe artist in the perfect Patina Green colors!!  The last picture shows an old feed store counter, and you can't miss the giant seed pod across the top!

Luann's handmade pillows.  This collection is made from a mix of vintage and new fabric.  Some are made from European feed sacks.  They are one of a kind, unique, and beautiful!

 

 

I also wanted to share this custom chair.  It is an old chair that we refinished and then had upholstered with a  fabulous European feed sack from 1893!!  The chair was so special that it SOLD right away!   So now, we are on the search for another perfect chair and feed sack to do it again!!

Summer at Smitten

We have brought in so many new things at the store that I wanted to share some photos.

  

 

This is the front "summer" table.  Check out the concrete shell base and the baby blue enamel sand buckets full of votive candles.  The table also has unique tarnished silver pieces, old bundles of French books, natural oyster shells, hand blown glass vases, and a mix of vintage glass bottles of sea grass.

New for summer, we brought in three scents of locally made votive candles.  My favorite is Creme Brulee, I have been burning it at my house for years, and am so excited to finally be selling it!! ($15 dozen)

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!  I am crazy about mixed vintage silverware!  Why do they all have to match anyway?!  We are selling unmatched, but cleaned and polished silverware. ($4 a piece)

 

 

  

 

 

We are so excited to be carrying some of the French Lothantique body and bath line.  We brought in two scents, Verbena (my favorite!) and Grapefruit (Luann's favorite!).   Besides the gorgeous packaging and labels, the products are made with natural ingredients, smell heavenly, and they are well priced!!

 

 

 

LOVE this French iron campaign bed!!!  We had a custom mattress hand made from linen with detail stitching to fit the bed, and then filled it with Luann's one of a kind hand made pillows!

Luann's pillows are uniquely one-of-a-kind and this time they are sided with fabric of beautiful french script and then a vintage coffee bean bag.

 

We now have in stock fresh picked & preserved Ivory hydrangeas!!! ($20 a stem)

 

We framed a small collection of botanical prints from Sweden.  They are beautiful...

 

 

 

Love this laundry chest of drawers!!!  The hardware is unmatched and mixed and gives the cabinet so much character!

 

 

 

 

Last, a new curtain to add to our "collection".  These are locally handmade of gauzy material with a white ruffled base.  The standard size is 48" wide by 84" long, but can be custom made to any size.   The standard price is $130 a panel.

 

More Space @ The White Elephant!!

After only a short four months at The White Elephant Antiques, we have decided to expand!  Our "space" is now twice as large, twice as full!!  

 

We loaded up the car! Luann road with an old shabby rocker in her lap!!!

These next pictures are of two matching tables that we put together.  For the tops, we used a slab of antique carrera marble,  taken from an old bank counter!! Then we found two matching, heavy black metal table bases.  The finished console tables are unique and fabulous!!

 

 

 

 

Love this vintage rug!  What a great pattern and wonderful colors!

What a neat drafting table!  It displayed our extra large ledger book perfectly.  (which already sold!)

 

 

This antique insect poster is very old and from Paris.  The iron gate worked as a unique "frame".

 

The other french antique print is a bird poster.

 

I am so excited about this fabulous find!!!  These old (1866) french prints are from an ornamentation book.  We found the book in perfect condition and each page is more beautiful than the next.  We carefully took the book apart so we could sell each page as a beautiful work of art.  There are over 500 individual prints.  We have some at the White Elephant and some at Smitten.  (and some still at home!!)  Check out a few pages selling at the White Elephant:

This is an old cart from a shoe factory and inside are handmade wooden drying racks.

New White Elephant Pictures

We dropped off some new fabulous things to our space at The White Elephant Antiques. Thought I would share ...

 

 

 

 

This industrial piece is an old shelving unit from a factory, it looks great showcasing ironstone!

 

 

This metal shelving is from the same factory and really looks good with our collection of vintage books.

 

Love this funky hand made metal chair (there are a pair!) and the botanical antique prints are so beautiful grouped together.

New Look for Smitten!

There is a new look at Smitten!  We spent some time last week moving and rearranging the store.  It has been six months since opening day, and it was time for a fresh look!

 

Gardening for Spring . . . the hand-made potting table is perfect for all of our beautiful old terra cotta pots.  Each one is unique and has wonderful patina!

What a great find this old store counter was! It would make a perfect kitchen island with it's sliding doors and divided drawers!

 

These are very old hand blown fly catchers from Holland!  We found them packed in hay in their original crate!

Love this old lingerie cabinet with mixed hardware knobs and the old parlor chair from the 1930's.

 

We refinished this old music cabinet to give it an updated look.  It is such a unique piece now!

 

This handmade cabinet (from old wood flooring and bead board walls) works as a perfect display for our ironstone and linens.

Spring at Smitten!

Just wanted to add some new photos of Smitten.  The store is ready for Spring!

 

 

The front table is full of Spring animals!  The ducks and hens are so adorable!  They are each hand made from natural grasses . . .

 

 

We love this vintage couch!  It looks like it is right out of the Anthropologie catalog!

 

The back of the sofa is still upholstered in the original 1920's fabric.  Love it!

Burlap Curtains for Sale!

We are really excited about finding a new source for burlap curtains!  They come in two lengths and two styles.  They are beautiful!

These are the hand smocked curtain panels.  The panels are 42" wide and come in 84" long for $ 108.00  or 108" long for $130.00.  (They are also available in teastain or white organdy and ecru or white linen!)

White Elephant Antiques

There’s something about March that we love.  It’s the last hurrah of winter and the first whisper of spring.  Slowly our spirits awaken from a rest and new ideas spring forth.  It’s time to plant seeds that when nurtured will grow and become our future.

This month we “planted our garden” in a new location……we set up a booth at White Elephant Antiques in Dallas!  We’ve always loved shopping this part of the design district coming away with unique finds…hopefully you will too!

It just seemed right to open this booth with the most beautiful wildflower pressings we could find.  We came upon a book from 1913 full of 50 pages of pressed wildflowers complete with description, classification, date and numbered.  We had them professionally framed with a burlap mat and dark frame.  The collection of 25 is offered in sets of 4 and line the walls of our booth at White Elephant.  Here’s a preview in pictures, but we hope you’ll check them out in person.

The old notebook had been closed for so many years that the dried botanical has left an incredible "print" over the handwritten description page!

 

 

Serendipity Market!

It all started with the definition of "Serendipity":

a talent for making fortunate discoveries while searching for other things...

That's exactly what this market was about...we traveled to Canton with our porch "stuff" searching for a beautiful show and hoping to sell everything we brought...but what we discovered was fortunate indeed.

We found we LOVE what we do, we LOVE our friends who do the same thing, we LOVE the people who shop with us and "get" the idea of buying something that has the love and patina of years past...and that we are indeed "fortunate" to realize this and are able to do  something that makes us feel good during these times.

We hope that all who joined us at LaurieAnna's felt the same way and made some fortunate discoveries while searching for other things.

Our sincere thanks goes to LaurieAnna for inviting us to join in this event, letting us completely take over her front porch, thanks to her adorable staff of beautiful women who inspired us, and thanks to all of you who came!  We look forward to the next time we meet!

Serendipity Spring Market!

We are soooooo excited to be a part of Serendipity Market!!  We are teaming up with two of the very best artists & merchants in our world of friends…Willow Nest and LaurieAnna’s to bring you the best we have to offer for Spring 2009!

 

 

When we think of Spring, we think gardening, birds preparing their nests for new arrivals, porch rockers and gliders, anything earthy and green and fresh….potting and growing!  It’s the best time to be outside so that’s where we’ll be!  We will set up our “goods” on the porch at LaurieAnna’s in Canton and can’t wait to show you what we’ve found!  Linda with Willow Nest will show her beautiful works on the other porch, and it will be the preview of Spring inside at LaurieAnna’s Vintage Home.   We can’t wait to see her fabulous displays of Spring merchandise that only she can put together! 

Come early for champagne brunch between 9-11a.m. and for first picks on our “one-of-a-kind” merchandise! 

A new look for a new year!

It’s January, all fresh and new, a clean slate to do with as we choose.  It’s a time to renew, a time to pack away 2008 no matter how heavy that suitcase will be or how full it seems, it’s time to close the top and look ahead.

 

Old stuff, junk from the past, antiques...they manage to find us and say “buy me”, “love me”, “bring me to life again”!  And that’s what we do...

     

Why did we buy those old yellowed-edge sales books that were lying on the dusty shelf hidden behind books?  Were they saying, “I never got to be used, the store closed before they got to me...I would make a great notepad now on your desk at home...buy me”?

 

Why were we drawn to the table with layers of paint and years of wear that said “love me again – you won’t believe all the stories I can tell”?

 

Why did the rocking chairs say “with new cushions I can be alive again, able to share hours rocking on the porch this spring”?

 

Because even though we try to pack away our past, it never really goes away.  It is a treasured part of us and part of the world.  It shows up again and lives on at another time bringing joy and smiles to another generation, creating memories of another kind and finding love in another’s heart.  That’s the miracle of life.  For what we carry in our heart never goes away.

 

So in January, in 2009, we hope you find happiness and peace with something of the past.  Come see what's "new" at Patina Green . . . our latest collection of stuff that found us . . .

Smitten Grand Opening!

  What fun!  We welcomed both old and new friends to our new store location on Sunday.  We had a great turn-out for the event and everyone had a good time!  We loved seeing everyone and introducing them to our partners at the new store and giving them a tour of the entire space.  We had Chef Bob at the store serving wonderful canapes.....everyone enjoyed the Poinsettia drinks from Cheryl and the wonderful mocha punch from Angie.   Gifts and glitter were given to lucky customers throughout the day............we thank you all for joining in our celebration of a new space!  If you didn't make it Sunday, please come by and see what's new!

New Store Opening!

December 7, 2008!

We are part of a new store in downtown McKinney called "Smitten". The store is a collaboration of six talented ladies, each bringing something fun and unique to the store. We all moved into the new store the first of November, we are open for business, but our "Grand Opening" will be December 7th. Fun Times at the Antique Collection

March 08 - November 08

We had to quit our Canton days due to an unepected illness in the family ... but we had just returned from Round Top with a trailor full of really neat stuff!

So, we met Karen Dawkins at the Antique Collection on the historic square of downtown McKinney, and leased a space.  We met a lot of new friends and were able to sell our unique finds and continue our "junking" fun.

Canton "Daze"

It all started here!

We loved our First Monday shopping trips so much we decided to be a part of it!  In October 2007, we called the Arbors manager and professed to have a great collection of really neat old stuff that we "made new" and we just knew we could create a neat booth and be a big success in her building.  She wasn't sure, but we sent photos and pleaded our case - so in December 2007, Patina Green was born in our little booth at First Monday.  We had great fun, met wonderful friends that will last a lifetime and now we have an even bigger collection of "really neat old stuff"!
